The description of this trip was spot on when it mentioned that it would be good training for the Christmas trip. There were so many ups and downs that we could definitely feel it in our legs at the end of the day, and I see why it wouldn’t have been suitable for beginners.
There were two groups on the day: one starting at Waharau, and my group starting at Workman Road. It’s always nice to have two groups walking towards each other and meeting halfway through the day to exchange experiences—and some jokes, too, of course.
Our group covered 16.4 kilometres in just over six hours (thanks, Peter, for the stats). The climbing in our group was made a bit easier because we had Superman/Superwoman Sharleen flying up those hills :-).
The track was maintained most of the way and the weather held up, as promised, with just one or two showers that passed quickly. The walk was mostly through bush, but the views from the clearings were stunning.
The company was brilliant and enjoyable—as always.
It was a lovely day, and thanks, Lynda, for organising it :-)
