About UsThe North Shore Tramping Club has a membership representing a broad cross section of age groups. The standard of tramping done by the club is representative of the areas we have access to.
Trips are the core activity of the club. Usually there is a Sunday day trip most of the year along with a number of overnight weekend trips. The big trip of the year tends to be the Christmas trip which is often spent in the South Island and Easter gives an opportunity to wander further around the North Island. The club bus features hugely in most of our trips. Day Trips: Most day trips focus on the area surrounding Auckland City including the Waitakere and Hunua Ranges. We often visit the Waikato, Coromandel Ranges or north of Auckland. Opportunity is also taken for coastal walks and family days to local reserves. Usually involves c. 5~7 hrs tramping on average and are self catering. A day pack is sufficient to carry the necessities for the day. Weekend Trips: Some weekends and longer public holidays usually mean a trip to some great tramping areas further afield around New Zealand. Weekend trips are normally Full Pack jobs and again involve c. 5~7 hrs tramping each day although longer days are not entirely unknown on some trips! For the weekend/overnight trips we normally split into groups of approximately equal fitness and go and DO it! Each person usually brings his/her own food & gear. However the Club has gear to lend or hire to members . Easter & Christmas Trips: These trips give the opportunity for some substantial tramps particularly in the case of the Christmas trip. A typical trip may be 4~5 days with longer durations in some areas. Typically Easter will provide a trip further down the North Island to area's such as Kaweka's, Ruahines, Egmont/Taranaki or Tongariro whilst Christmas generally ends up in the South Island. Social Evenings: Held on the last Wednesday of each month on dates identified in the newsletter at the Senior Citizen’s Hall. The Strand, Takapuna, commencing at 7:30pm. Supper is provided. For the date of next meeting, see programme in What's On and a map of where to find the hall in Meeting Places. Visitors are always welcome! Some of Our AimsTo encourage on the North Shore of Auckland the interests of Tramping, Skiing, Mountaineering, Caving and associated activities.
