Safety Guidelines & General InformationThe club does its best to ensure the safety of all its members and guests, however, all outdoor activities of this nature attract some risk for which members accept personal responsibility. For your safety and comfort, please read these guidelines.
Good Tramping PracticeClub policy is to tramp together as a party – always be in sight of the persons in front and behind you.
Do not go off on your own – there must be four people in a group. It is possible however to invoke the Sybil Goose clause and have just three. (If you don’t know about this ask any long -term member of the tramping “gaggle” who will enlighten you!). Always stop at all track junctions, windfalls and stream crossings – do not continue until the party has reassembled. Carry your own first aid. Clean your boots between trips. Guidelines for Organising a Day TripHere are a few pointers to help to you prepare for and run a day trip.
What to do if a Party is OverdueThere will be any different scenarios for when a party is overdue depending on the experience of the party, their route, day trip or multi day trip and the weather and daylight conditions. Here are Guidelines for those waiting back at the bus.
Equipment for LoanClub members may hire equipment such as packs, tents, cookers, etc. Contact the Gear Officer for information about what's available and to arrange collection. Gear may be borrowed for free on club trips and for a small charge for private use.
Private TransportIf there is room on the club bus, and private transport is used, the trip cost per person is due to the club. If the bus is full or not used, the trip cost per person is due to the owner of the vehicle used for that trip.
Trip CancellationsCancellations are to be made with the Trips Booking Officer. If notified before the trip closing date a full refund will be given. For later cancellations, application for refunds must be made in writing to the committee no later than one week after the trip departs. Generally no more than 50% of the fare will be refunded in order to cover non-recoverable expenses.
Late ReturnsReturn times are always uncertain, do not give a definite time you expect to be home.

Mountain Safety CoursesThe Mountain Safety Council runs training courses to encourage and assist all who enjoy land-based outdoor adventure activities to develop their skills and knowledge and accept responsibility for their own safety.
The club encourages you to increase your skills and offers a 50% subsidy to financial members attending Mountain Safety Courses. To claim your refund, send a copy of your attendance certificate to show completion of the course to a committee member. See the MSC website for upcoming courses.
