The weather gods had been appeased, (some of us know how to do that!) the spring tide made the coast bits easy and the winter light was very pretty
The fast party set out at a fast lick and we didn’t see them for the rest of the day. If they are still not back you might need to organise a search, John! They did all the coast – the rest of us went via the Wilson home grounds to St Leonards to avoid the quite slippery rocks of that section of coast
Wilson home gardens are very impressive and quite complex (ie we wandered round a bit to find the way out!) Heron and kingfishers came out to watch us on the next coast bit.
Two volcanoes summited! (I had thought of adding Mt Cambria but that would have been cheating….it was quarried years ago.) We passed some of the iconic Devo spots – the mushrooms on Mt Vic, the tunnels on North head – yes, we went in the tunnels and saw the disappearing gun, and the neat dragon seat above Clarence Street Then on and on (yes, bits of road- sorry…but couldn’t be avoided) to the Celtic maze where Campbell aMAZEd us by walking round it- followed by Brian and Elizabeth… Along Ngataringa bay to Bayswater cemetery and the new bridge – on and on and eventually down on to the beach at Hauraki to complete the circle.
Thanks for your company – the 11 of us who made up the main party, and the other four who hoofed it back to Taka and probably to cafes – or even the pub?
